PRODUCT REVIEW: Tealyra Blooming Teas

So my mother-in-law (to be) got us a new teapot for Christmas, and a Tealyra's blooming tea gift box!

"Blooming tea is a special category of woven Chinese tea, sewn by hand with flowers that beautifully 'blooms' in you teapot right before your eyes!" The base is usually Jasmine Tea, with the flavored flower ball in the middle. Each ball can be re-steeped 2 to 3 additional times, allowing for multiple pots!

They come in a box of 12 in a variety of flavors (mostly fruity), which are vacuum sealed to retain freshness.

Simply fill your teapot with boiling water and drop the pod in! Watch it bloom and expand! My MIL calls them Cthulhu teas because of their tentacle-like appearance.

We have tried quite a few! My favorite so far is Honey Peach, and his favorite is Lychee.

I hated to look up prices for these products, since it was a gift, but thought for a complete review, cost analysis is vital.

The Gift Box of 12 is $15.75 (+S&H), making each bloom $1.31. If each bloom makes around 12 cups of tea, that is just $0.11 per cup. Jasmine tea from the store (which only allows for 1 to 2 steeps) cost around $0.14 per cup. So, these blooms are a pretty good deal for exotic and diverse flavors that you might not find in the stores.

You can also purchase a gift box with a clear tea pot for $30.50 + S&H. The teapot delivered may not look exactly like the one pictured, but will be a clear teapot with a lid, and a tea leaf basket. I believe this option is not the better deal. Clear tea pots can be purchased for much less elsewhere online.

The gift box can be bought here, and the gift box with a tea pot can be bought here.

I would give this product a 4/5. These teas are delicious, and really neat to watch. They are fun to have, but are also really tasty teas. The only thing I wish was different was that the Gift Box came with more traditional flavors. My MIL purchased another set of more traditional flavored blooming teas, but they did not come with this gift box, or as an alternative to this gift box. I believe she purchased them separately.
