So, I have been eating the same kind of food my entire life. Growing up in rural Kentucky's food deserts leave families like mine with few options, and even fewer opportunities to taste and experiment with international cuisine. Not until I moved to Lexington with my fiance have I been able to branch out into different cultures and cuisines. Right now, I am obsessed with Korean cooking! So...
I want to introduce you to someone! This is Emily Kim, also known as "Maangchi"! Maangchi is a delightful Korean woman who has been sharing her recipes for over a decade! Some call her the "Korean Julia Child!"
She has her own website....
Visit www.maangchi.com |
Purchase her cookbook HERE |
But she also has her own YouTube channel, where she has been sharing cooking videos since 2007!
I have been watching her videos for a few months and I am chompin at the bit to try her recipes. I grew up in rural Kentucky, so many of these ingredients I had never heard of! Gochujang? Shredded, dried squid? Kimchi? Perilla leaves? Shishito peppers? Seaweed paper? Lotus root? So many strange ingredients that she skillfully turns into amazing dishes!
On her website, you can find Beginner's Guide to Korean Cooking, introductions to all these strange ingredients, and much more! She personally will answer any cooking question you have, and encourages everyone to try!
She also has 4 episodes on her YouTube channel describing the types of products and ingredients you might find in Asian markets, and how to use them! I learned a lot from these videos!
Inspired by her, my fiance and I took a trip to the Asian markets around town! We came home with multiple bags of goodies!
